55 Bel Air Sedan Rustbucket Gasser

Was given this AMT kit awhile back and thought it would make a great weathered Gasser, because of the old paint job. This is relatively new to me so, going to try some of the techniques learned on here.

Used Clay's method of Red Primer and baking soda.



Masked it off with Micro Mask.


When I pealed it off, it took paint right down to the stuff that wouldn't come off for weeks in Purple Power. So, threw it back in the pond for another week, scrubbing every day.

Didn't look that bad, so decided to just put some rust dust on.



Kinda looks like a 60s Gasser that was repainted and left out to decay. What do you think Clay

Not sure why you had a problem with Mocro Mark Mask, unless, as you said you peeled it off. That's almost impossible. I had tried that before I realized it was water soluble. If your paint wasn't really heavy, it should have washed right off.

Got Bob's Big Boy as a freebee for buying some Jimmy Flintstone resins.
He's on the bench and I'm trying to paint real small. Which is a real problem, when you have clubs like mine.

He still has a ways to go.

Man that rust sure made a mess on my bench, but I needed to clean it anyway

Bruce what did you use for rust? is it Makeup or chalk?

It's real rust made from Steel Wool.
