Doin some final body sanding. Nosed the hood and shaved the trim. Then decided I ought to shave the belt moldings on the body.

Going to try to recess the tail lights a little and molded in a license bracket. Crap! Now, I suppose I'll have to go ahead and french the headlights !!! Not a big admirer of overly customized pre-50s classics (canted, quad headlights, etc.), so it will be simple. Maybe, I'll try tunneling them....maybe not.

I think I have the bodywork well in hand. NOW, to think about painting it. Have a couple of ideas, but kinda hesitant to experiment !

I have done a little of those type flames before but this idea should be a bit tricky. I seen them like this on a motorcycle tank, and I really liked it.

Base coat. Mopar Midnight Blue Met. This is just the base coat. I've used some leftover automotive base coat from a few years ago when I did a repair on our van. The plan is to clear this with catalyzed clear and have a hard, practically indestructible, base to play on when I play with some hand painted graphics.

The protective coats of clear are on.
The reason I need the protection. I anticipate a lot of correcting when I try to outline the flame graphics. Practice:
Hard part will be the tight curves. The subtle curves will be fairly easy. I'm using a Kafka striper. The one I'm using has the number worn off, so it MAY be a 00. These are pretty old. Can't remember when I last used them. I had trimmed this one down at some time. But I still have a brand new one in the tube !! It's an 0 !

I like to do the tight curves with a nice brush. You'll get it looking good.

Body color flames, Bob, with true fire type under them. Unmasked the flames. Had too much of the white highlights. Had to try to get some of the yellows back in without re-masking. Lost some of the oranges, but looks a little better. Now to let it gas out (used 1 Shot sign enamel for the colors), then some light coats of clear before tackling the striping.

Hmmm... Kind of yellow, but we'll see how it turns out.
