Cool.
That's an OK method, but Salt and baking soda has to be used with restraint here in humid Florida. I now use sifted dirt instead for really crusted rust.
Using salt as a masking for rust needs to be completely removed after the paint is applied when humidity is, or will be, high.
After a session, and I had the model completed and setting on a shelf for a few days, I went to it and was appalled because there were water droplets everywhere I had left salt under the paint for heavy texture. same when I used baking soda heavily.
For really fine surface rust, I sift the dirt thru a automotive paint strainer. Coarser than baking soda, but what I get left is pretty fine.
